Android Market ratings system incoming

The famous slur against Android Market came from the podfather himself, Steve Jobs, who said that if users wanted porn, they should get an Android. But an announcement yesterday looks set to change that a little. Eric Chu, from the Android Developer Ecosystem said in a post that all apps in the Android Market would be showing content ratings within a few weeks.

Chu said: “Providing users with more information about applications on Android Market has been a top request from Android users…starting next week, developers submitting new or updated applications will be required to include a rating for all applications and games uploaded onto Android Market. In addition, developers will have the next several weeks to add a rating to their existing applications and games.”

Once Android Market app ratings become visible to users, any applications or games that do not include a rating will be treated by Android as Mature. The ratings run as follows: all, pre-teen, teen, and mature.

What do you think about this development in the Android Market? Do you welcome it?
