The Cowon J3 metal media player with an AMOLED screen leaked out two weeks ago courtesy of a design competition shortlist, but now it’s official, and sitting pretty on Cowon’s site. See it up close in our gallery here!
Now we’ve got a better look at the Cowon J3 through the newly released images, we can breathe a sigh of relief: it’s just as beautiful as it was shaping up to be, with a shell a shade under 10mm thick, that brush metal finish and an eye popping 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen.
On the spec front, the Cowon J3 also promises a TV tuner, FM radio, Bluetooth, voice record and TV-out, a microSD card slot, a Flash player and a battery good for 64 hours of music or a stonking 11 hours of video. Cowon also appears to have cracked the UI on the Cowon J3 too (One of our major problems with the Cowon S9), with a Zune-style text menu system, but we’ll see how that pans out when it ships.

We’ve got no word on a release date in the UK or Europe for the Cowon J3 just yet (Lucky South Korean residents get it on 31 March), but Cowon’s English language site has a picture of the pretty little thing on the homepage, suggesting we could be hearing much more about it soon. We’ve reached out to the company and will update if we hear anything. Between this and the latest Philips GoGear, Apple has its work cut out.
