What is Motionflow 200Hz?

Motionflow 200Hz is Sony’s brand new image processing technology, packed inside the latest Bravia Z4500 TV, it works silently to smooth out juddery images and make fast-moving scenes look slicker than a buttered snake.

The secret is creating more frames in between the originals to make movement fluid and smooth. Sony’s original Motionflow 100Hz technology pulled that trick to iron out jerky movement, but Motionflow 200Hz offers twice the performance in the latest Bravia TVs.

To work its magic, Motionflow 200Hz analyses each frame of video, comparing it to the next before adding a new one in between to make the transition as smooth as possible. It’s a complex process, and one that needs significant expertise to pull off. You don’t want just anyone monkeying about with your images, you want the experts at Sony.

The diagram to the right shows how Motionflow 200Hz works, beavering away to bridge the gap between frames and intelligently adjust the image to give eye-popping results.

Having Motionflow 200Hz inside the Bravia Z4500 means it can effectively quadruple the frame rate of the pictures its showing off, predicting movement in all directions and inserting up to four additional frames between the originals to generate smoother movements and reduced flicker.

Best of all, it’ll work on any pictures you feed into the TV, whether they’re high definition movies from Blu-Ray, live TV or images from a games console. Take a peep at the video below and you’ll see how Motionflow 200Hz works.
