We may have Google+ games to compete for our attention now but there’s still plenty of addictive distractions popping up on Facebook. Farmville maker Zynga snaffled up Newtoy, to Facebook. The word game, which is obviously in no way like Scrabble, uses practically the same interface for its Facebook version as on iOS. That’s no coincidence.

The Words with Friends Facebook app syncs with the iPad and iPhone versions if you sign in using your Facebook account. That means you can start a game on Facebook and seemlessly switch to mobile. There’ll be some frowning faces over at Facebook today. In an entirely unshocking move, Google has announced Google+ Games and it’s got big names on board already. Rovio announced Angry Birds Facebook earlier this year but the game has yet to flock there. Just like those pesky pigs with the eggs, Google’s grabbed it first.

Word With Friends, the Scrabble-esque iOS word game is coming to Android following in the footsteps of Angry Birds. Farmville creators Zynga bought up Words With Friends recently and is now slinging the app onto the Android Market imminently (as soon as next week).

The Words With Friends Android app will be cross platform so you’ll be able to play with your iPhone 4 owning friends as well as people packing the Google Nexus S. If you’re desperate for Android apps in the meantime, try out Android apps all-time top 100 list.
