Nintendo’s DS successor won’t arrive for a while according to Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, but it will feature better graphics and some motion control smarts. Read on for a glimpse of the future…
Interviewed by Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, Iwata talked about what 2010 holds for Nintendo including the launch of the next Legend of Zelda game. However, most exciting was his hint about the proper successor to the Nintendo DS.
While Nintendo has released various versions of the DS, including the forthcoming Nintendo DSi XL, it has not released an entirely new handheld.
Pushed on Nintendo’s plans, Iwata revealed the following: “[It will have] highly detailed graphics and it will be necessary to have a sensor with the ability to read the movements of people playing.”
Nintendo has launched Nintendo DS motion peripherals in the past but bringing Wii-style motion control sensors to the DS’s successor would be a major step.
With the Nintendo DS still selling well, Iwata said it would be sometime until the next version of the console will hit the shops. Perhaps the Nintendo DS’s successor will take the Zii name which Nintendo recently copyrighted.
