Microsoft will let users downgrade from Windows 7 all the way to XP, a source at HP claims. That means you’ll still be able to get the 8 year old Windows XP on new netbooks even after Windows 7 launches.

The Linux toting version of the Aspire One has been available for a while, if you know where to look, but if all that open source is making you itch fear not as Acer has released the official XP drivers so you can perform the upgrade yourself.
Microsoft is still pushing ahead with its plans to squeeze heavy weight OS XP onto the light and nimble OLPC XO laptop that’s designed for the developing world. The results? Well, it’s not as sluggish as it could be but it’s no match for the Linux based Sugar OS when it comes to speed.
In order to keep the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) hardware lean and mean so it’s cheap enough for, well, every child, the XO runs the Sugar flavour of Linux. That’s not stopped Microsoft try to cram XP on there in a way not unalike the Ugly Sisters trying to squeeze their hoofing great clod hoppers into Cinderella’s slippers.
