Microsoft Xbox 360 sales surge in Japan, Europe and US
Microsoft has announced sales figures in Japan, Europe and the US showing a surge in sales of its Xbox 360 console. In America, Microsoft has announced that on “Black Friday” (the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, and traditionally a big sales day in the US) its Xbox 360 console outsold the Sony PS3 three-to-one.

Happy Christmas Japanese Xbox 360 owners. But Europeans, Americans and any owners of a PS3 are apparently on Santa’s naughty list – you get nothing, not even a lump of coal. Famitsu Magazine in Japan has announced that a demo of the terrifying (and “dangerous“) African zombie action game Resident Evil 5 will be going onto Xbox Live Marketplace from December 5th.

Australian New South Wales acting Superintendent Dave Evans has blasted driving games as a reason for Australia’s infamous dangerous roads. Evans told the Australian Telegraph: “Videogames can have a negative impact on young drivers because it increases their complacency and their risk-taking behaviour.”
Google kills Second Life copy “Lively”; 5 ways user-generated content sucks
Google has announced that at the end of this year it is to cease running its Second Life copy – Lively. Lively, a virtual world with user-generated avatars and content, rather cleverly allowed you to import content from other Google applications – pictures from Picasa, video etc. But that hasn’t stopped it from the chop because Google wants to “prioritize resources and focus more on core search, ads and apps business.” And that got us thinking – about how much I hate most user-generated content in gaming. Here’s five reasons why you shouldn’t make content for their games:
