iPad 3 spotted in iOS 5, Winter 2011 refresh?Tucked away inside the developer build of iOS 5 is a reference to the third generation, iPad 3. Listed as the ‘iPad3,1’ and ‘iPad3,2’, this marks the first time we’ve seen explicit reference to the device by Apple. Could this be the Retina display-powered iPad we were hoping to see earlier this year?

With iOS 5 launching later this year, the popular consensus is an iPhone refresh, iPhone 4S, in September. Today’s mention of the iPad 3 in iOS 5 changes the game, raising the possibility of a dual device announcement. Previously, we had expected Apple to follow its yearly product cycle of releasing one iPad towards the start of each year. Launching the iPad 3 this holiday season could change that trend.

iPhone 5If the omission of a fifth generation iPhone announcement at WWDC yesterday has you down, fear not. Industry insider DigiTimes is reporting that OmniVision has won a contract with Apple that will see both Sony and OmniVision supply Cupertino with 8-megapixel CMOS image sensors. According to the site, OmniVision grabbed a majority of the CMOS sensors headed to the iPhone 5. Meanwhile, power amplifier (PA) supplier Avago Technologies has landed orders for the WCDMA version of the device for its first time. Convincing details on Apple’s iCloud are spilling out ahead of the official unveiling at WWDC on Monday. The LA Times reports that iCloud will be launch as a free service if you buy music from the iTunes music store but that a subscription fee will be charged in time. It also says Apple has signed Universal up to the service, completing its wooing of the big four record labels.

We saw speculation earlier this week that iCloud may come bundled as part of Mac OS X Lion while others have suggested that it will simply replace the current MobileMe offering. The LA Times piece puts the future subscription at $25 a year which is substantially lower than the current cost of MobileMe. Click the headline and let us know: can you see yourself paying for iCloud?
