Korean electronics giant LG has developed an alternative to 3G and WiMax that it claims is over eight times faster at downloading data than the fastest handset currently on the market.
Pictures of what appears to be the first ever WiMAX-equipped mobile phone have popped up online. Unless some kind of Photoshop jiggery pokery is afoot, the snaps show the HTC T829 apparently connected to Yota, a newly opened WiMAX network in Moscow, at a 3G-caning speed of 13.8Mbps.
WiMAX, the long-range wireless technology offering 3G-like download speeds, is currently being rolled out in the US, starting off with Baltimore. And thanks to a pair of new WiMAX-toting laptops from Acer, residents of the city can access the web wherever they roam.

It’s barely been out any time at all and already Asus’s latest Eee PC 901 has been stripped down and paraded about all nekkid. However, taking a peek at it in the buff does reveal some hints of future upgrades.
The latest addition to the Asus Eee PC family has turned up earlier than expected at the WiMax Expo show in Taipei. The little lappy was expected to be launched at Computex tomorrow when Intel takes the wraps off its Diamondville Atom processor.
