Vodafone’s launching a new initiative today, “Data Test Drive”, which promises to change the way you buy a phone on contract. Buy a smartphone through the network and for three months you can use all the data you want. The point isn’t to go overboard, but to find out how much you actually use, as you get to grips with your new blower.

Thought the £99 HP TouchPad was a bargain? Wait until you get a load of this: earlier this week, Vodafone accidentally sold the rather swish Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, complete with a year’s worth of data, for less than the price of er, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Oops.

Vodafone lists Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray as ‘coming soon’Not exactly a release date, but news nonetheless. Vodafone has just launched a sign up page for the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray. The not-so-Neo Xperia Ray had us stumped in June, but we’ve found much to love in the bite-sized handset since. With a 3.3-inch FWVGA resolution touch screen and Gingerbread on-board, this could be one of Android’s finest value handsets to date.

As the most likely successor to the popular X8, the Xperia Ray packs an 8.1-megapixel camera, Reality Display and Mobile Bravia engine in a 9.4mm thin shell. While we’re still a bit flustered over the lack of a HDMI-out port, having the latest build of Android is a perk not many Sony Ericsson handsets can contend.

HTC EVO 3D and Vodafone part ways, delays to blameIf you were hoping to get your hands on the HTC EVO 3D this summer, we’ve got a bit of bad news. Vodafone has decided to scratch the launch because of a series of “delays to bring the phone to market.” There will be no 3D love from HTC hitting the UK after all.

The HTC EVO 3D has seen a particularly unusual transition from CDMA to GSM. After launching in the US on Sprint’s network, the EVO 3D was quickly addressed overseas with the release of the LG Optimus 3D. To date, neither device has captured the level of interest of the 2D handsets they’ve replaced. Read more
