Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic is Nokia’s first foray into the world of touchscreen mobile phones, and it’s a pretty snazzy offering from the Finnish phone company. And if you don’t believe us, then what about Batman? He’s all about the gadgets and he uses one…

Formerly known as the Tube, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has a range of features for media and music, including a 3.2 megapixel camera, 16:9 wide touchscreen for movies and and A-GPS and Wi-Fi for navigation and internet browsing. Admittedly, it doesn’t let you track the movements of everybody in Gotham City, but it does do some clever Web 2.0 stuff, giving you icons for your best chums on the homepage that link to records of your conversations, text and email exchanges as well as updates to their Facebook accounts.

That 3.2-inch touchscreen, meanwhile, is a real stunner and complements the new S60 software nicely. Of course it helps if your fingers don’t resemble Lincolnshire sausages, but otherwise navigation is almost as smooth as the iPhone’s. We say almost because it doesn’t have multi-touch. Meanwhile surfing the internet is speedy thanks to HSDPA, and even the 3.2-megapixel snapper is better than the iPhone’s two-meg offering, delivering the sort of polished snaps you’d expect from Nozza.

Nokia’s even sorted out the 5800 XpressMusic’s main flaw. Although the audio quality is outstanding, on launch Nokia inexplicably failed to include its all-consuming music buffet, Comes With Music, in its flagship phone. That’s like creating the world’s fastest car and forgetting to fit it with brakes. Now, though, the 5800 has Comes With Music (albeit exclusively on Orange), and it’s an awesome proposition. Batman will be happy…
