TomTom is rolling out version 4.0 of TomTom HD Traffic. It now reports 200% more traffic jams in rush hour, and delivers information to the TomTom device two minutes after a problem is reported on the roads. There’ll be no extra cost for existing TomTom users either. TomTom says: “Existing HD Traffic customers will experience the benefits immediately, without the need for any software upgrade.”

The BBC would have to pay ISPs to deliver iPlayer traffic under the government’s new internet policy recommendations. Say bye bye to HD BBC iPlayer.

Apple has filed a patent for integrated iPhone mapping and calendars, showing it has plans for the handset to plot directions between appointments automatically. It’s far more intelligent than the current iPhone software, and integrates with the address book too.

We’ve heard murmurs that Nokia had plans for a next-gen traffic service to go head to head with TomTom HD Traffic, and now it’s official: Nokia’s Mobile Millennium project will collect data from the roads and analyse congestion hotspots.
