Russell Brand and HP? Considering it’s targeting business customers for its Touchpad, you might think Brand is a pretty odd choice of frontman for its adverts. And you’d be right.

HP’s webOS business model is in dire need of a shake up. After lack luster reviews of the HP TouchPad flooded the internet this morning, the two biggest complaints have been the hardware (specifically the weight) and application library. Licensing webOS would silence hardware critics and who better to deliver premium grade webOS hardware than Samsung. Are you ready for webOS-powered Samsung tablets?
It appears Apple and Google are not the only cool kids on the block touting a cloud-based music streaming solution. Reports have surfaced HP is building out its own Google Music and iCloud competitor for its webOS range of device, like the soon-to-be-released HP TouchPad.
HP’s webOS cloud service is not a one-trick pony, it will feature music, movies and TV show streaming. According to Billboard magazine, HP is in discussion with a number of record labels to bring their libraries to webOS devices.
This Sunday pre-orders for the HP TouchPad kick off in the UK with a July release to follow. While you sit back and fantasize about the latest build of webOS gracing a 9.7-inch display, HP has released a series of eight videos to hold you over.
The video series covers everything from multitasking to charging. When the TouchPad goes on sale next month, the 16GB model will be £399 and the 32GB £479. The combination of a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM look to outclass both its iOS and Android competitors.

No it’s not the HP Veer or HP Pre3 announced earlier this year. In fact we aren’t quite sure what the name of this mysterious HP smartphone could be — which is why we need your help. Our friends over at precentral.net received a photo of this unnamed smartphone this morning and other than a few rumored specs, we’re a bit dumbfounded by the glamour shot.
With HP’s entry into the tablet market looming on the horizon, we couldn’t help but take interest in an update to the status of webOS. Over on the HP webOS developer center, webOS 3.0 SDK beta is now available in ‘Early Access’ mode. There’s a few hoops you’ll need to go through to get your hands on the fresh new SDK, but we’ll walk you through the steps.
