Great news for the UK’s ailing games industry – the Government has taken an interest (at last) and appears to be actively seeking ways to provide ‘culturally based tax breaks for computer games’. This is a measure which the UK games biz has been clamouring for, ever since foreign tax incentives sparked a brain drain of home grown talent to places like Canada and Korea.

Gold farmers beware. Nina Olson, the National Taxpayer Advocate for the US Internal Revenue Service has published her annual report – this year she recommends that the US Government looks into taxing the virtual economies of games like Second Life and World of Warcraft.
According to Swedish news paper DN (Dagens Nyheter) the European Union is to vote on imposing a 14% import tax on any mobile phone with an inbuilt GPS or mobile TV receiver.
