Long time readers of Electricpig will know that I’ve been quite the advocate of Android. I prefer the less stringent conditions for runnings apps on it, and I love how seamlessly it works with your Google account.

What I do not love is that even after more than three years since the first Android phone was released, it can still delete ALL of your text messages in the blink of an eye. Google, this is *not* acceptable.

Android SMS bug still not fixed?Dating as far back as June 28th, some Android users have been suffering from a SMS glitch that sends text messages to the wrong recipient. The first known occurrence began on the Nexus One, but today it seems that a much broader list of devices are being affected by the bug.

iPhone SMS tones got an overhaul in iOS 4.2 with a slew of new alerts for your texts and…they’re uniformly awful. We have to applaud greater choice but the sounds we actually get are painful. It’s like they’ve been grabbed from a cartoon SFX CD and they’re strangely long for SMS tones. More bad news – iPhone 3GS owners seem to have missed out…

Packed away nice and neat in a blog post by the Gmail team, the company announced they are working diligently to deliver SMS text messaging from within Gmail.

Apple has been granted a patent for a feature that screens objectionable text messages, whether you’re sending or receiving them. The snappily titled Apple patent is officially called “Text-based communication control for personal communication device”. Which translates to sext message screening. Whether it’ll also cut out Jobs’ other bugbear, gambling, isn’t clear.

iPhone security has taken a big hit with the revelation that the its SMS library, including on your deleted texts, could be swiped by a malicious website. Fear not though, the researchers that worked out how to swipe your iPhone SMS messages won’t reveal how to do it until Apple have fixed the issue.
