Group messaging is the next big battle ground for chat services and Skype has added to its arsenal to compete. It’s announced that it has  acquired GroupMe, a group messaging service with apps for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone, that it says will add mobile text and photo messaging to the VoiP software’s current features.

While Skype hasn’t revealed how much it’s spent to grab GroupMe, it looks like a smart buy. Google snapped up group messaging company Slide last year while Facebook bought Beluga and Apple will deploy group messaging smarts when iMessage launches with iOS 5.

Skype for Xbox 360 launching in October?Skype for Xbox 360 is coming soon, possibly this October according to the latest Xbox awards survey. One of the questions in the survey asks which activities you enjoy on the Xbox 360. The answers include watching DVDs, Zune movies, Nextflix, Hulu Plus and “using Skype”. Microsoft has been quite about Skype integration since the EU commission has not yet approved the deal. This makes the slightest the mention of Skype front page news.

Facebook has teamed up with Skype to bring video calls to the social network. The move is part of a major redesign for Facebook Chat that also includes the much-requested addition of group text chat feature.
