Virgin will be launching a TiVo powered set top box alongside its TiVo connected TV line up before Christmas. The Virgin Media TiVo set top box will support HD and 3D, and will be carrying a whopping 1TB of storage.
A software upgrade is on its way for the Humax HD-FOX T2 set top box for Freeview HD, which will allow you to record live TV to a USB drive, turning your Humax Freeview HD box into a makeshift PVR. The Humax HD-FOX T2 update is due in early October, and also brings live pause and rewind, split recordings and schedule tracking so that you start your recordings on time.
UPDATE: Whoops! It seems Motorola’s set top box won’t be running Android after all, but the KreaTV platform based on Linux.
If you haven’t tried Boxee yet, you’re really missing out. That said, it’s not terribly easy to get involved with the 3rd party media centre: you either need to hack an Apple TV to install it, or wire up a PC or Mac to your TV. Now, however, the Boxee team are considering branching out with their own set top box.
Sky is preparing an update to its set-top box software, bringing auto standby to daytime viewing as well as night time telly sessions, and making the Sky box one of the most eco-friendly devices around.
