Right, guys, remember that Doctor Who: Worlds In Time massively multiplayer online game we told you was coming earlier this year? Yeah, we’ve got loads more details on it now, but you have to promise not to shoot the messenger. This game isn’t some sonic screwdriver-based rival to The Old Republic. It’s a Flash-based game with a business model lifted straight out of Zynga’s playbook.

Dreamcast-Birthday-Cake

The 9th September 1999 is a milestone in gaming history: it was the day Sega’s last, and arguably best, console, the Sega Dreamcast, was released in the West. Twelve long years have gone by since then, but though the console died an ignominious death just 18 months laters, its legacy still lives on. Join us as we look at how the Dreamcast continues to shape the landscape of gaming today.

Our love for Sonic 4 Episode 1 is well established but we won’t be getting the second installment of the revived franchise this year. Sonic Team’s Takashi Iikuza has told Eurogamer that 2011 is entirely focused on Sonic’s 20th anniversary and Sonic Generations, which is intended as a kind of greatest hits package for the spiny blue mammal. We’ll see Sonic 4 Episode 2 in 2012.

Iikuza says: “It was always the plan. We knew about the anniversary year and Generations was planned way in advance. It was always our plan to release Sonic 4 Episode 2 after Generations.” Pushed on whether we’ll see a Sonic 4 Episode 3, he refused to comment one way or the other. Still there’s always that Sonic CD revival on Xbox Live Arcade to cling on to while we wait for Sonic 4 Episode 2 to spin into view.

Sonic CD to be reborn on Xbox Live

We’ve been dreaming of old games since we heard those rumours of a Road Rash revival, so it’s exciting to hear that Sonic CD is headed to Xbox Live Arcade. The classic but often forgotten Sonic title popped up on a list of games set to go on show at the Penny Arcade Expo next week. Sure we liked Sonic 4 but sometimes we just want to see the hedgehog in his 16-bit prime.

Major Nelson, Xbox promoter-in-chief, revealed the list. It includes plenty of things you’d expect like Gears of War 3 and Forza 4 but near the end lurks the uannounced Sonic CD Xbox Live Arcade port.

Sega PR is keeping shctum about the game right now but has promised more information soon. In the meantime, click through to bop along with the awesome Sonic CD theme tune. Sing along with us: “Sonic boom! Sonic boom!”…

Sega has been hacked. Over the weekend, it admitted that its Sega Pass website has been compromised exposing the personal details of 1,290,775 registered users. The attack mainly affects users in Europe and North and sounds all too familiar in the wake of the Sony PlayStation Network hack.

Fortunately, there are some major differences between the situation faced by Sega and the Sony debacle. The big one is that, since Sega uses external firms to process payments, no credit card details have been swiped. And this time, LulzSec says it didn’t do it. In fact, though it hates Sony, it seems it’s got a lot of love for Sega…
