First a flotilla of robotic fish for ocean reconnaissance, then the threat of bikini clad beauty replacement robots for those in bother in the briny. Now the latest droid taking to the high seas is set to seek out much more of our murky underwater expanse.
The Seascout is as yet on the drawing board but with its seemingly simplistic design, array of on-board equipement and potential ability to pull wayward ocean going folk out of the briny should get it up the manufacturing line with speed.
Deep-sea swimming robots are nothing new, yet suffer a significant drawback in that they have to re-surface to communicate and share information. This problem kick-started the development of Robofish at the University of Washington over five years ago and progress, we hear, is going swimmingly.
