It looks like the Nintendo 3DS has a case of the HP TouchPad’s fire sale. The company’s price cut of its 3D portable console kicks off in the UK tomorrow with even deeper savings than previously expected. Tesco will offer the console for £115 while Morrison’s will be £120 and £25 for all games. If you still need another choice, GameStop is including free delivery with your 3DS for £135.

Slashing the price of a product doesn’t usually require an apology but the Nintendo 3DS price cut is a little different. Despite offering a bundle of games as compensation to early adopters – Nintendo is trying to style them as “3DS Ambassadors” – CEO Satoru Iwata has penned an apology note to fans who feel let down.
In the slightly over-dramatic letter, he tells Nintendo 3DS owners “there is nothing we can do to completely make up for the feeling that you are being punished for buying the system early” and assures them that they’re “extremely important”. Nintendo’s successor to the Nintendo DS has long been rumoured. Now the whispers have grown to a low hum with tales coming from Japan that a Nintendo DS2 developer kit is already in the hands of some game makers and that it features motion-sensitive smarts.
Legend of Zelda’s very earliest concept art has been unveiled in the latest edition of Nintendo’s Iwata Asks website feature, a regular series with Nintendo’s CEO Satoru Iwata. Iwata worked on the original Legend of Zelda and discusses the birth of the gaming franchise.
The Nintendo Wii and DS consoles are to get a joint video download service. Nintendo head Satoru Iwata revealed the plans, saying: “If the Wii and the DS are connected, it should be possible to download video through the Wii and take it with you on the DS.”
