We know there’s been false alarms on this before but Samsung has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S family is getting its taste of Android Gingerbread finally. The UK and the Nordic countries are named as the first lucky recipients with the update set to arrive here from the middle of this month.

The rest of the globe will have to wait a little longer but every Samsung Galaxy is getting some love. As well as suping up the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy Tab, Samsung’s constellation of budget Galaxy devices (including the Ace, Glo, Fit and mini) will get some Gingerbread love.

UPDATE: Vodafone UK has confirmed the 2.3 update is available for Galaxy S handsets on its network now. Just plug your phone into your computer and grab it through the Kies syncing software. Let us know how you get on.

Samsung has finally outed the Samsung Galaxy S Gingerbread update for European customers. It started appearing over the weekend for Samsung Galaxy S owners in the Nordic countries, Holland and Germany but should be reaching the rest of us this week.

Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.3 Gingerbread confirmed: arrives in MarchThank you Samsung. Looks like iPhone 5 production well on the way. That’s according to sources in South Korea. Samsung factories are working overtime with reports suggesting that Samsung has agreed to “quadruple monthly shipments of [processors] to Apple”. That means 50% of Samsung production capacity is dedicated to pumping out iPhone 5 Apple A5 chips and the firm is also said to be planning a new $3.6bn plant in Austin, Texas to ensure it can ship more mobile processors to Apple. The iPhone 5 A5 chip is said to be similar but not identical to the processors inside the Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Galaxy Tab and Samsung Galaxy Player.

Director Kim Dae-Woo’s “Age of Milk” is the first professionally-made movie shot with a Samsung Galaxy S smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S Mini spied?

The Samsung Galaxy S Mini could be the next Android stunner to join the Galaxy S stable alongside the original Samsung Galaxy S and its MP3-gobbling sibling the Samsung Galaxy Player. Pictures purporting to show the Samsung Galaxy S Mini have popped up online along with specs that predict it’ll be an Android Froyo machine with a 5MP camera and Qualcomm’s budget MSM7227 processor. We’ll also see the same Super AMOLED screen tech as the bigger Samsung Galaxy S. Do we know this for sure? No. But with images of the rumoured Samsung Galaxy S2 also out there we’d expect to see much more from Samsung at Mobile World Congress in a few short weeks.

The Toyota Entune system is part of a trend of app happy cars at CES 2011. The Toyota Entune system uses an app on smartphones including the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S and hooks it up to your car via Bluetooth. You then have access to a dashboard of apps including Bing Maps, movie ticket reservations and restaurant reservations as well as musc apps, real time traffic, weather, fuel prices and sports scores. The apps are displayed on a large touchscreen set in the dahboard of the car and will be controlled by both taps and voice commands. The Toyota Entune system will work with most current smartphones and feature phones and will be an option in select Toyota vehicles throughout 2011.
