Confusing news from Samsung this morning. It’s decided to revise its naming strategy for Samsung Galaxy devices bringing in a whole slew of new letters to let you know where you sit in the pecking order. The first model to benefit from the new branding is the Samsung Galaxy W, an Android Gingerbread phone with a 1.4GHz processor, 3.7in Super LCD screen and 5MP camera, which will be winging its way to 3 imminently.

Did Samsung sell more smartphones than Apple this quarter?According to research firm Strategy Analytics, the answer to that question is yes. Samsung sold between 18 and 21 million smartphones in the second quarter, beating Nokia’s 16.7 million and Apple’s 20.3 million iPhones. The firm believes sales of the Galaxy S II sealed the deal and that Samsung will be walking away as the number one global smartphone manufacturer when the dust settles.

Faster Samsung Galaxy S 2 to battle the iPhone 5 this September?We haven’t been coy in showing our love for the Samsung Galaxy S 2. Since its arrival it quickly became our favorite Android smartphone, but today we’ve learned a faster, more powerful, Galaxy S 2 may be coming this September.

The purported Samsung Galaxy S 2 will feature a 1.4 GHz dual core processor (up from 1.2 GHz), 1GB of RAM and run Android Gingerbread 2.3.4. A late August or early September release would position the beefed up smartphone to compete directly with Apple’s iPhone 5 (4S).
