The Nintendo Wii outsold its nearest competitor, the Microsoft Xbox 360, by nearly 2:1 in March in the US, NPD figures show. The Nintendo Wii sold over 600,000 units to US gamers. Microsoft sold 330,000 Xbox 360s. And Sony sold a mere 218,000 PS3s. Nintendo’s also trouncing Sony when it comes to handheld console sales too.

Microsoft has announced sales figures in Japan, Europe and the US showing a surge in sales of its Xbox 360 console. In America, Microsoft has announced that on “Black Friday” (the first shopping day after Thanksgiving, and traditionally a big sales day in the US) its Xbox 360 console outsold the Sony PS3 three-to-one.

NPD data has shown that Sony sold 190,000 PS3s in the US in October, with Microsoft Xbox 360s selling nearly double that at 371,000. Nintendo, of course, still holds top spot, with the Wii selling more than four times the number of PS3s – 803,000. Perhaps it’s time for Sony to rethink that no price cut policy?

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console has enjoyed another week outselling its rival, the Sony PS3, in Japan. For the week ending October 17, the 360 outsold the PS3 by 25 per cent (4,800 PS3s versus 6,000 Xbox 360s). But other figures released show that Microsoft has a long way to go before it challenges Sony’s overall sales figures in the region.
