So Kinect Avatar has just arrived and Microsoft land is happy. Only, all is not as it seems. Reports are rippling across the web that the Red Ring of Death is back and being brought on by the Microsoft Kinect. Microsoft denies that’s the case but a report on BBC Radio 4′s You And Yours highlighted the issue and the Official Xbox Forum is filling up with threads with people reporting Red Ring of Death issues…

Since Microsoft’s mandatory “New Xbox Experience” update to its Xbox 360 console, some users have complained of console-killing “E74″ messages. To some, these appear to have replaced the infamous Red Ring of Death (RRoD) three lights that previously indicated a broken console.

Now Microsoft has confused already angry gamers by claiming it is “not accurate” to say Xbox 360s have been “reworked” to show E74 errors instead of the RRoD, but at the same admitting “E74 can indicate the general hardware failure associated with three flashing red lights”.

An anonymous customer service rep for Microsoft predicted that the New Xbox Experience update for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console would cause serious problems for a minority of owners – including the infamous “RRoD” Red Ring of Death, meaning a dead console. And now it looks like, for some, those predictions have come true.
