Guitar Hero 5 has been announced, and its key innovation will be the ability to play any mix of four instruments in multi-player modes. Four drummers? Four singers? Four guitarists? Or any mix of guitarists, singers and bass and lead guitarists will apparently be possible (although whether you’ll be able to add a scratch DJ, or four, to your band line-up has yet to be revealed).

Would-be Guitar Heroes who like their music a little hairier, a little none-more-blacker, a bit more metal will soon have the option of rawkin out with Lars, Kirk and co. in Guitar Hero: Metallica. US mag Game Informer has just published the first confirmed track listing for the game as well as some idea of how the game will play.

Gameloft have released Guitar Rock Tour for the Apple iPhone (and other mobiles) – a music game that’ll be very familiar to fans of Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Gameloft describe it as an “alternative to Activision’s Guitar Hero”, but you could just as well call it a fairly straight rip.

Activision is aware of and is responding to issues that have been raised by purchasers of Guitar Hero: World Tour’s new drumkit in the US. Forum posters have raised concerns over drum pads not registering both hard and soft hits. Meanwhile, PS3 gamers are complaining that, despite promises to the contrary, it appears the new Guitar Hero and Rock Band peripherals are not fully cross-compatible for their console (while apparently working on the Xbox 360).
