Soul Calibur 5 enters a fight scene currently benefitting from a welcome resurgence. If 2011 was the year of the first-person shooter, then 2012 is the year of the beat-em-up, in a year that will also see new Street Fighter, Tekken and Dead or Alive games hit the shelves. As the series returns after a four-year break, we ask, has it been worth the wait?
Before I get to Final Fantasy 13-2, let me explain a few things.

Deep down, I knew this was going to happen. Rumours had been swirling for weeks that BBC iPlayer wouldn’t be working at full capacity on the Xbox 360’s new TV service. But the official confirmation that the service won’t land on Microsoft’s console until ‘early 2012’ is nothing short of infuriating. I’m sure that when it does launch, it’ll work like a dream. But the fact is we’ve been waiting far too long for this to happen. Microsoft needs to buck its ideas up if it wants to prove that it’s capable of offering a service to rival the PS3, Boxee Box, Apple TV and even the Nintendo Wii.
The PS Vita is just a few weeks away from hitting Japanese shelves. And if you’re still not convinced about whether to shell out £229 for one when it lands here in February, perhaps emerging news about the console’s stunning Remote Play capabilities might change your mind. See, word is that all PS3 games will play nice on the PS Vita, making the handheld an even tastier proposition than before.
