The Project Canvas YouView box was announced this morning with some scant details about its functionality, but now news has emerged that YouView will not have a web browser, according to the newly appointed CEO of YouView Richard Halton. He said: “The question that often gets asked is, ‘Will this thing have a browser?’… if, in time, the British public decides that’s what it wants, we will be able to do it. But, for now, we’ve essentially built a TV experience.”

YouView, the progeny of Project Canvas, has been announced today, combining on demand, live and interactive TV in one box. The prospect of making my TV multifunction with very little extra cost is convincing me to hook back up to the world of live TV and shell out for the license fee.
