Steve Jobs emails but Apple’s Phil Schiller has jumped onto Twitter and he’s doing it properly (unlike Google’s Eric Schmidt). He’s got 21198 followers at the time of writing and is answering queries and questions of all kinds. He won’t share his Game Center ID so you can’t challenge him to a game of Words With Friends and he’s not a fan of Walt Mosspuppet (“Too mean and obscene”). Check out @pschiller on Twitter. Apple surprised everyone this morning by unveiling a new version of Garageband that, as well as adding new features, included the option for users to actually learn an instrument or song from within the application, direct from the artist who recorded it.

As part of its update to iLife today, Apple wheeled out a new version of its entry level video editor, iMovie. It seems Apple listened to the negative feedback which followed the last version, tweaking its interface and adding tons of new features, including shake correction, editing refinements and animated maps for video-happy travelers.

Apple kicked off 2009 with a bang today, introducing iLife 09 to fans at Macworld in San Francisco. The cream of the crop is the new version of iPhoto, packing some seriously slick technology including face detection, geotagging, Flickr and Facebook integration.
