Samsung’s Omnia HD will launch with Symbian 5 as its operating system – quite a departure from the original Omnia’s Windows Mobile platform. Rumour has it, however, that Samsung may not just settle for the Symbian alternative and has plans to laucnh several Omnia models running Android.

Samsung is reportedly pouring a huge amount of resources into developing a new handset running on Google’s Android OS, with the goal of launching the device in the second quarter of 2009.
The as-yet-unnamed phone will reportedly be a variant of the Omnia and Instinct phones, which means we can expect a device dominated by a large touchscreen, with very few physical buttons. It’ll be sleeker in shape than the Omnia, however, which should be music to the ears of those who found the T-Mobile G1 a little on the ugly side.
