When is a $10 laptop not a $10 laptop? When it costs $30 and is actually a storage device.
Look! It’s the new OLPC dual touchscreen in the wild! OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) promised this dual touchscreen tablet version of the lil laptop some time ago, but this is the first evidence we’ve seen of it in the works. Don’t get too excited though – this is an obvious fake. Find out why after the jump.
Microsoft is still pushing ahead with its plans to squeeze heavy weight OS XP onto the light and nimble OLPC XO laptop that’s designed for the developing world. The results? Well, it’s not as sluggish as it could be but it’s no match for the Linux based Sugar OS when it comes to speed.
In order to keep the OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) hardware lean and mean so it’s cheap enough for, well, every child, the XO runs the Sugar flavour of Linux. That’s not stopped Microsoft try to cram XP on there in a way not unalike the Ugly Sisters trying to squeeze their hoofing great clod hoppers into Cinderella’s slippers.
The $100 laptop program just got a much needed refresh. Gone is the clunky green housing of the original budget notebook, and in swoops this, a touchscreen wonder without a keyboard, that’s actually cheaper than its predecessor.
