Those Google Chrome OS netbook rumours look bang on the money. The Google-branded models have reportedly been spotted in testing logs from October onwards. The latest story is that Google Chrome OS test machines have ranged from Asus Eee models to Lenovo and Dell builds (you can see the manufacturer in bug reports) but there are “dogfood” machines i.e. Google own-brand devices…

The Google Chrome OS launch is meant to happening any time now and the rumours of Google-branded kit have fired back into life. Just as we’re hearing talk of a Google Nexus Two, DigiTimes is claiming that a Google Chrome OS Netbook will break cover this month. It says Google will be first out of the gate with an own-branded Chrome OS Netbook, built by Inventec, using ARM chips and sold online just like the Nexus One was originally. Perhaps its the Google Speedbook we heard tell of earlier this year. If it’s true Google should be slinging out an event announcement soon. We’ll be closely watching the skies…

Sales of the iPad are predicted to hit 28m in 2011. The analyst with the forecast, Maynard Um with UBS Investment Research, said that although the iPad wasn’t affecting Mac sales, it was impacting notebook PC sales. Um also said 28m iPad sales could be a “conservative” figure. In the first 80 days of being on sale the iPad sold three million units.

The Google Speedbook: could that be the name for an own-branded Chrome OS hardware from the search giant? A newly unearthed trademark application suggests Google could be toying with a netbook/tablet equivalent of the Nexus One. Eric Schmidt previously implied Google wouldn’t offer its own Chrome OS hardware. Was he having us on?
