Apple is set to reveal iOS 5 and the long-rumoured free MobileMe update next month according to a new rumour. German Mac site, Macerkopf, says Apple will out the next update of iOS in April, a year on from unveiling iOS 4 which was revealed on April 8 2010. Quite what we’ll see in iOS 5 is a mystery but we’re hoping notifications get a serious overhaul. Apple’s MobileMe online services suite were pulled from retail and ditched from its online store yesterday and now the service is down for maintenance. Steve Jobs promised an updated MobileMe sometime this year so all this messing about suggest we’ll be getting just that during the iPad 2 event or perhaps even sooner…

Try to buy MobileMe. Go on. Head to the Apple Store website and give it a go. It seems Apple has stopped selling subscriptions to MobileMe entirely. The 60 day free trial is still on offer, but try as we might, we’re unable to slap down the credit card and grab a full price subscription.

What’s more, MobileMe seems to have been erased from store listings. We can’t see it anywhere, even under the master list of Apple Software. Is it a web bug, or has Apple yanked MobileMe from sale ahead of next week’s iPad 2 launch?
