Which has the best games, PS3 or Xbox 360? Don’t answer that, we could still be arguing about it for literally decades. The analysts at Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) reckon they’ve got the solution though, courtesy of Metacritic and a bit of careful number crunching. Their research shows that overall 17% of PS3 games are rated at 85/100 or higher, while Xbox 360 has to make do with 13%. So there you go.

The Sony PS3 has the best games, according to a study of the average review scores given to games. The study of Metacritic.com’s averages of game site and magazine review scores found that 60 per cent of Sony PS3 games were rated as good or better (above 70 out of 100 average score), compared to 50 per cent of Microsoft Xbox 360 games and a mere 35 per cent of Nintendo Wii games.
Online review aggregator MetaCritic is being forced to seriously rethink its user registration procedure after an outbreak of fanboy mobbing. While game critics have been almost universally wowed by three of this year’s biggest games – Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 and LittleBigPlanet – their equivalent user reviews paint a completely different picture, thanks to spiteful users artificially lowering the average user scores.
