Mass Effect Galaxy for iPhone is getting mixed but generally positive reviews on iTunes and it’s a good distraction from the arduous wait for Mass Effect 2. There’s another reason to pony up the £2.99 asking price – fast-fingered players who have already completed it have discovered that finishing the game wins you a mysterious reward inside Mass Effect 2.

Mass Effect 2 received an unexpected twist earlier in the year when a teaser video strongly implied that the gender-swapping series star, Commander Shepard, was ‘Killed in Action’. That surprising revelation sent a shockwave through the Mass Effect community, who were rightly bemused by their hero being ignominiously dispatched in the space (no pun intended) between the two main games.
Earlier this week we got word that Bioware and EA were beavering away on Mass Effect: Jacob’s Story for the iPhone and iPod Touch – well, now we’ve spied the first screenshots.
Mass Effect is going mobile! The news was broken indirectly via an online survey so Mass Effect publisher, Electronic Arts, has yet to give it the proper unveil. What we do know is that it’ll offer top-down shooter combat and ton of new story delivered via an animated graphic novel.
EA’s heavy-handed DRM policies have caused some serious backlash from the gaming community, but it looks like the publisher is mending its ways. Having bowed to pressure and released a tool for unlocking Spore from your system, EA has now extended the gesture to another 17 titles released since May 2008. You can download it here.
Halo 3, Mass Effect and PGR4: each one is an absolutely must-have Xbox 360 title, and now Microsoft has generously decided to slap a budget price tag on them and flog them as a new Xbox 360 Classics range. Xbox 360 Classics will be £19.99 a pop when they re-launch in their new boxes this Friday, 20th March.
