Watch the FA Cup on Facebook

Categories: Apps & Software    Tags: , , , ,

The FA Cup is coming to Facebook this Friday with the first ever match to be broadcast live on the social network. Don’t expect to see Premiership stars though. The game, part of the extra-preliminary FA Cup round, pits Ascot United against Wembley F.C. Still, it’ll feature the very first kick of the 2011 FA Cup.

The match will be streamed live from Ascot United’s Racecourse Ground on the Budweiser Facebook page. Kick off is at 7.45pm on Friday with coverage beginning at 7.30pm. Mike Harrison, Ascot United’s Chairman, says: “To be involved in the first game of the FA Cup this season is an honour in itself but to be part of a world first and have our match broadcast to a massive global audience is fantastic for our club.”

How many of the vast potential audience will actually log on to see the two teams slog it out is up for debate but we’ll be tuning in to support them. Check out our guide to football live streaming to find out how to watch even more matches legally on your mobile.

Mobile network Three has unveiled an extraordinary new sales tool: live video customer service. ‘It’s like advanced video calls, but so much smarter and with more interaction, around a custom built touchscreen’ say B-Reel, the Scandinavian digital gurus who built the bizarre-yet-brilliant tool.

Imagine a Skype video call – except that the sales person on the other end can drag or drop photos of the latest Three phones onto the screen, using a specially-made, multi-touch display. It’s all very Minority Report, you really have to click through and see the video….

The second of today’s live webcasts is Rupert Murdoch’s announcement of the iPad-only newspaper The Daily. Step up to get a glimpse of what it looks like when two of the world’s most successful companies climb into each other’s pockets. Along with News Corp., Apple will also be presenting the event, with Eddy Cue, vice president of Internet Services at Apple stepping up to the plate, presumably to explain some of the wizardry that goes into pushing The Daily to your iPad in the morning.

The Daily live webcast announcement starts at 4pm.
