LG’s OpenGL conversion tool takes smartphone gaming to the third dimensionRunning low on gaming titles for your LG Optimus 3D? LG has just demonstrated the world’s first OpenGL-based 2D to 3D conversion engine for smartphones at IFA 2011 in Berlin. The conversion engine will be included in the first maintenance release for the Optimus 3D in October. Any previously purchased 2D games will become 3D-enabled with the push of a button.

Sony Ericsson is planning a massive 4.7-inch glasses-free 3D smartphonSony Ericsson is prepared to blur the line between tablet and smartphone with its upcoming 4.7-inch 3D display. The massive display will be featured on the company’s first 3D phone, a device many believe will arrive early next year. HTC EVO 3D and Vodafone part ways, delays to blameIf you were hoping to get your hands on the HTC EVO 3D this summer, we’ve got a bit of bad news. Vodafone has decided to scratch the launch because of a series of “delays to bring the phone to market.” There will be no 3D love from HTC hitting the UK after all.

The HTC EVO 3D has seen a particularly unusual transition from CDMA to GSM. After launching in the US on Sprint’s network, the EVO 3D was quickly addressed overseas with the release of the LG Optimus 3D. Samsung Galaxy 3D to battle EVO 3D and Optimus 3D in late 2011It appears Samsung will be taking its smartphone talents to the third dimension later this year.
