Sharp revives Elite brand with new 60 and 70-inch LED LCD TVsLooking for the best in home theater entertainment? Sharp has announced the return of an iconic line of TVs with the relaunch of the Elite brand. Samsung Smart TVs literally fly off retail shelves, two million units sold in 90 daysIt took Samsung nearly eight months to sell two million LED TVs. Today, the company smashed that record and announced it had sold more than two million of its Smart TVs in just 90 days. Leading sales was Europe and North America which accounted for more than 700,000 units sold.

Here’s your Samsung Smart TV sales timeline: 500,000 sold in 25 days, 1,000,000 in 45 days and 2,000,0000 after 90. That breaks down to 22,000 TVs sold per day or 15.4 sold per minute, wow.

What do we have here? We just slapped eyes on the Toshiba UL and Toshiba SL series TVs, two unannounced LED TVs that’ll be the first to run Toshiba’s media centre software, Toshiba Places, in the UK. Toshiba’s keeping most of the specs close to its chest until IPTV content partners are signed on, but we know they’re both 1080p 100Hz models with Wi-Fi and DLNA-certified, with Freeview HD tuners.

We’re particularly taken by the Toshiba UL TV’s silver and black finish, but the important thing is Toshiba’s cloud based Places service, which should give Samsung’s TV Apps service a run for its money. We’ll have a preview of Toshiba Places for you shortly, but expect these two to go on sale in May in a range of sizes.
