Sharp revives Elite brand with new 60 and 70-inch LED LCD TVsLooking for the best in home theater entertainment? Sharp has announced the return of an iconic line of TVs with the relaunch of the Elite brand. The new Sharp Elite TVs will be LED LCDs instead of Plasma sets, capable of delivering the “highest caliber picture quality and technology available.” There’s two sizes, a 60 or 70 inch model and both units will be available later this month.

Making the leap from 2D to 3D viewing can be a daunting task. Outside of the sticker shock at the cash register for the set, the additional cost of purchasing half a dozen glasses can really be a turn off.  Samsung is taking aim at solving this conundrum with their new glasses-free 55 inch 3D LCD, currently on display at FPD China 2011.

These semiconducting nanocrystals are illuminated by current or light and promise to be brighter, cheaper and more energy-efficient than either LCD or AMOLED displays.

Could more smartphones with the equivalent pixel display to the iPhone’s Retina display be on the horizon? Today Hitachi has announced that it has matched the iPhone 4′s Retina display.

The 4.4-inch LCD rocks 1280×720 resolution, and Apple pushes 960×640 on its 3.5-inch screen, giving the two equivalent screen pixels per inch ratio, and a pixel density that means you can barely detect the pixels with the naked eye.

Apple iPad 2 will not use an OLED display?The second generation iPad, iPad 2, will be released in the first quarter of 2011. The updated display is rumored to run at Retina resolution, but it will not feature OLED display technology.
