Toshiba promises eco TV and laptop onslaught
Screaming “BACK OFF!” in the face of CO2, Toshiba today has announced at IFA 2008 that upcoming LCD televisions and notebook PCs will be earning serious Mother Nature brownie points. Eco’d up to the eyeballs, the new Toshiba 42XV515D comes loaded with smart new innards that enable it to reduce the amount of backlights used via an ‘advanced brightness control’ technique, meaning it uses less power, which will keep the bunnies hopping in the meadows for another season at least.
Dell shows off its first ever Latitude laptop
Just to remind us how far the company has come with the new Latitude E-series, Dell wheeled out XPi, its first portable Latitude PC. It’s more of a leg-breaker than a laptop though. It was the first to introduce Li-ion batteries in 1994, but it weighed nearly 3kg and looks like an electric typewriter.

Last night’s announcement from San Francisco wasn’t the 9-inch sub notebook that CNNMoney had predicted, but the new Latitude E series, including the worlds lightest, thinnest and longest lasting ultra-portable notebook, as well as some lovely new colours!
