After some promising rumours, it was a bit of a surprise when Sony did not announce a PS3 Slim at its E3 press conference. So what about all those leaked photos then – were they all just an elaborate hoax or is Sony keeping one card close to its chest? In a recent interview, Sony’s hardware man, John Koller, refused to shed light on the issue, but not in the usual ‘We don’t comment on rumour or speculation’ way. Intriguing.

Sony had hinted at something big happening this week, but it wasn’t the PS3 price cut we were all hoping for. Instead, it’s the long-serving PS2 that’s getting the few quid shaved off the retail price, and will drop from $129 to $99 in the US from tomorrow.
The PSP2 is totally on its way. Probably. Whatever happens, it’s creating a bit of a spat between Sony and PSP2 whistle-blower Dave Perry, creator of Earthworm Jim, founder of Shiny Entertainment and currently Chief Creative Officer at Acclaim. Sony man John Koller dismissed Perry’s statements claiming he “didn’t even know who the guy was until a month ago.”
The latest Sony rumour doing the rounds might not stand up, according to one Sony head honcho. Word is we won’t be seeing a new PSP any time soon, and that claims to the contrary are completely false.
Sony is worried about PSP piracy. Justifiably so since the handheld’s games are among the most heavily pirated of all the platforms. There’s good news though: PSP piracy is experiencing a slowdown. The bad news? Well, the sad fact is there really hasn’t been any noteworthy PSP for several months.
