When Apple said “a future product transition” is due in September during its earnings call last week, the general consensus was that it meant the iPhone 5 launch. It’s not that surprising then to hear new claims, purportedly from Chinese suppliers, suggesting that Apple is stocking up on the new model.
The China Times says an initial test shipment of 400,000 handsets has been sent to Apple in preparation for a launch in the second week of September. It goes on to say that the sample is part of a production run of 4 million. Looking at the sales of the iPhone 4, that number actually sounds quite low. Still, best chuck this rumour into the pile marked “plausible”.
