If Apple’s Siri is the main reason you’d consider upgrading from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 4S, there may be a far cheaper way. A new app available through the Cydia jailbreak store claims to bring near full Siri integration to the iPhone 4. Read more
And so, it’s official. Apple says it will not be bringing its Siri voice assistant to the iPhone 4 or iPod touch. Both devices have been hacked to work with the iPhone 4S-only tech in recent weeks, with gossip emerging that Cupertino was testing Siri on the iPhone 4 ahead of a planned release.
But Apple’s engineering department have slapped down such talk, saying on the company’s official forum that “Siri only works on iPhone 4S and we currently have no plans to support older devices”. And for my money, that’s great news. Because it’s time we moved on and left Siri time to prove whether it’s really a worthwhile feature.
Siri, Apple’s iPhone 4S-only voice assistant, has been hacked to work on other iDevices before. But until now, the workarounds have not been able to contact Apple’s servers, rendering the feature largely redundant. Now though, a new hack has been revealed, bringing complete Siri powers to both the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G. Read on for all the details.
Stop reading the iPhone 5 rumour mill for a second and consider your options: If you’re yet to upgrade your smartphone this year, now is the best time to bag an iPhone 4. Network 3 has just teamed up with Recombu to offer the iPhone 4 on its all you can eat One Plan, with a huge £169 cash back. That’s unlimited data, and a fantastic phone, along with a fat cheque in your pocket. What’s not to like?
A report from Reuters claims the budget-mind iPhone rumored by BGR in July will actually be an 8GB version of the iPhone 4. The smaller capacity iPhone is set to launch in late September or early October alongside the iPhone 5. As usual, the news comes from “two people with knowledge of the matter”, so take the report with a grain of salt.
The sources not only confirmed the existence of an 8GB iPhone 4, they also confirmed the flash memory is being manufactured by a Korean company — though they failed to explicitly mention its name. Currently, Apple sources its flash drives from Toshiba in Japan and Samsung in South Korea.
Apple will deliver the iPhone 5 with support for both CDMA and GSM networks according to a new report which revives rumours of a world phone in the works. Techcrunch claims to have got hold of app logs which show an unidentified device running iOS 5 and sporting the network codes for both Verizon and AT&T.
Building a global iPhone 5 would be big news for US Apple fans who currently have to choose between AT&T and struggling when travelling abroad with the Verizon iPhone. A dual-mode iPhone 5 would allow the device to roam between networks effortlessly and allow Apple to stop producing two slightly different models. Verizon’s CFO seemed to reveal that an iPhone 5 world phone was on the way back in April but hopefully we’ll find out for sure at a September iPhone launch.

With the iPhone 5 allegedly due out late next month or early October, industry insider DigiTimes has come forward with its 2011 iPhone shipments and forecasts. The site believes 2011 iPhone shipments will reach 95 million units, a surge of 138 percent compared to the 39.85 million shipped in 2010. Even more impressive are the iPhone 5 shipments which are estimated to reach 25.5 to 26 million in 2011 — that’s more than the combined 2010 third and fourth iPhone shipments.
