The ever enterprising iPhone Dev Team has just shown off its first untethered jailbreak for iOS 5, running on both an iPhone 4S and an iPad 2, meaning you may soon be able to run whatever apps you like on your iDevice, without the need for Cupertino’s app police approval.

Siri iOS voice control is due to undergo a baptism by fire when the iPhone 4S goes on sale tomorrow, but we’ve already seen just how impressive it is. What might surprise you, given Apple’s typical straight-faced attitude, is just how much of a sense of humour it seems to have, coming right back at you with quirky responses and quips to, er, “unusual” requests. Thought your BlackBerry woes were over? Guess again. Just hours after RIM fixed a day long data outage, fresh reports are in that the BlackBerry messaging system has toppled over again. It’s a major fail for RIM, but doubtless good news indeed for Apple, which launches iMessage, its answer to BBM, tomorrow.

A report from Reuters claims the budget-mind iPhone rumored by BGR in July will actually be an 8GB version of the iPhone 4. The smaller capacity iPhone is set to launch in late September or early October alongside the iPhone 5. As usual, the news comes from “two people with knowledge of the matter”, so take the report with a grain of salt.
The sources not only confirmed the existence of an 8GB iPhone 4, they also confirmed the flash memory is being manufactured by a Korean company — though they failed to explicitly mention its name. Currently, Apple sources its flash drives from Toshiba in Japan and Samsung in South Korea.
