iOS 4.3, which has been available in beta builds for developers for some time, is now official. The new build of iOS packs in extra AirPlay features such as in app video streaming, iTunes home sharing of media files, and to the relief of many, the option to use the switch on the size of the iPad as either the mute or screen orientation lock. Think you’ve heard it all? Think again. According to Apple rumor site apple.pro, not only is Apple working on the traditional iPhone 5 and an iPhone mini prototype, they’re also working on a third model — complete with a hardware QWERTY keyboard. Is this the real deal?
The iPhone 5 will arrive with a new social networking layer if new reports are correct. Lurking in iOS 4.3 there’s a new folder entitled “Media Stream”. Dive into that folder and you’ll discover references to Photo Streaming with different alerts and lists. They suggest Apple plans to let iPhone users set up photo streams that friends can subscribe to with privacy settings to prevent unauthorised peepers seeing your pics. Intriguing stuff…
The iPad 2 and iPhone 5 rumour machine has rattled into life in a big way over the past few days and the wildest of them all is that Apple is planning to kill the home button on both devices in favour of totally multitouch gesture focused controls. Boy Genius Reports claims that Apple is already testing homebutton-free iPad and iPhone devices but admits that the information is “pretty wild”. We take that to mean utterly unverified but still worth pondering at least. Could Apple really kill the home button? The iPad 2 is still a mystery besides the rapidly racking up pile of rumours but now the iOS 4.3 beta has been pushed to developers by Apple brining clues about the next generation tablet with it. iOS 4.3 brings new gestures with it, specifically for the iPad including “pinch to home screen”, “swipe to reveal multitasking tray” and “swipe left/right to switch apps”. iOS 4.3 also opens up the option to decide whether to use the side switch on the iPad for mute or screen lock rather than being dictated by Apple. The timing of the iOS 4.3 beta is interesting too, perfectly positioned for an iPad 2 February launch…
