iPhone: web apps left wanting by iOS 4.3?

When the original iPhone arrived it was all about web apps but since Apple launched the iTunes App Store the focus has clearly shifted. Now some developers are claiming that Apple is deliberately hobbling the ability of HTML5 web apps to run as full screen apps from the homescreen.

According to claims by The Register when a web app is saved to the home screen in iOS 4.3, it runs about 2x to 2.5x slower than in Mobile Safari. The reason appears to be that the new Nitro JavaScript engine that hit the OS with the iOS 4.3 update does not activate for full screen web apps launched from the home screen. Is this a cockup or a conspiracy?

iPad 2 32GB model costs $326.60 in materials

Despite the $129 premium between the WiFi iPad 2 models and their 3G counterparts, the cost difference to Apple is less than $19 USD. According to iSuppli’s latest findings, the 3G/HSPA iPad 32GB model costs $326.60 in parts, almost the same cost as the original iPad. Let’s take a closer look at the cost analysis.

Apple lists AirPlay-enabled apps in iTunes: 16 and counting

92 percent of iPad owners will keep the original or buy the iPad 2

A survey is currently underway (compliments of pcmag.com) which hopes to find out how many existing iPad owners will be upgrading to the new iPad 2. We must caution that these results are based on 5,309 votes and those surveyed did not verify ownership of the original iPad. With that being said, 92 percent will continue to ride high with Cupertino.
