In an effort to drive down the number of people who still use Internet Explorer 6, Microsoft has launched The IE6 Countdown, a site dedicated to mapping IE6 usage across the world. One in four still use IE6, despite it being so outdated that it can have trouble rendering pages properly, and often widgets just don’t work.
Microsoft says it is “committed to reducing IE6 share as quickly as possible”, with the ultimate aim of reducing the market share of IE6 to less than 1% from the 12% it is now. The UK is on its way, with just 3.5% of the UK using IE6. It’s entertaining to see that IE6 users have been branded charity cases, with Microsoft referring to them as a “cause”. Microsoft says: “Friends don’t let friends use Internet Explorer 6.”
