We’re told all the time that we’re living in a digital age and yet we’re surrounded by out of date, clunky systems. In a new series, Electricpig will be looking at the worst offenders to our digital sensibilities. First up: airports.

How often have you lost your ticket; been without Wi-fi and charging points while you wait for your delayed flight; hauled your luggage off and on three shuttle buses just to get to the check-in desk, and then been faced with in flight entertainment screens that look like they’re borrowed from the Short Circuit set? Last time the Electricpig team boarded a flight together, one person wisely took an iPad. The others did not, and soon regretted it. The in-flight screens were grainy, dark, and terrifically low-res. But in a step towards keeping up with modern technology, one Australian airline is swapping out these mini-screened atrocities in favour of customised iPads for all on board.

BA in-flight texts and emailsFrom Tuesday, business class travellers flying between London and New York with BA will be able to use their mobiles to send texts and emails. The airline is rolling out the in-flight OnAir service which will let those vital texts and emails wing their way from 20,000 feet.
