Nokia is to join the ranks to USB dongle makers, with a super-speedy HSDPA 3G modem pencilled in for an early 2009 launch.

The Finnish firm’s Tapio Markki told Reuters that the device will mostly be sold via operators and bundled with services, and like most existing dongles will be sold with the purpose of getting laptops online on-the-go.

3 has vowed to increase the speed of HSDPA 3G over the next couple of years, and claims that its customers in London and “other major cities” will be able to access the web at 14.4Mbps – double the current speed – by 2010.
