Update: Sadly, we’ve just heard from HP that the final run of the HP TouchPad is a US-only deal. Here’s the company’s official statement:

We are pleased by the response to webOS and look forward to customer feedback so we can further enhance the platform. A limited quantity of TouchPads will be available in the coming weeks  in North America only. In EMEA we are discontinuing the webOS hardware operations and will not offer any additional products beyond what might be currently available in selective outlets.” Oh well…

Bummed that you missed out on a cut-price HP TouchPad? You could be in luck. HP has revealed that it plans to push out “one last run” of the webOS tablet to satisfy the demand created by slashing the price of the hardware. It also might just have more than a little to do with appeasing suppliers stuck with stacks of HP TouchPad components.

How many more units of the HP TouchPad will be up for grabs isn’t clear but the company is promising to get the final batch on the shelves imminently. Read on for full details of what appears to be the HP TouchPad’s last hurrah, unless HP goes and changes its mind again…

Behold the HP TouchPad running Android! Last week we heard about TouchDroid, a project by to bring Android to the HP TouchPad, and even saw an Android Froyo HP TouchPad listed on eBay but Cyanogen has delivered the first video of the webOS hardware running Google’s OS.

The HP TouchPad in the video is running the Cyanogenmod 7 of Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 and the port is in very early alpha stages. Cyanogen says its working on a touch bug right now and aims to “create a ‘multi-boot’ solution where the end user will be able to boot into webOS, Cyanogenmod and/or other OSes”. The group says it’ll be “a long while” before it can release the HP TouchPad Android port to the masses but you can see it’s early efforts after the jump…

First HP TouchPad running Android 2.2 hits eBayLast time we checked the HP TouchPad was in the midst of a fire sale. Priced at $99 here in the US, the first (and possibly last) webOS slate has sold out across most sales channels. Earlier this week we told you about an Android port in the works and today it seems one TouchPad enthusiast has done just that. A 32GB HP TouchPad running Android 2.2 Froyo out of the box has just been listed on eBay for a whopping $700 (£427). We’ve heard of a mark up, but 250 percent seems a tad high if you ask us.

The HP TouchPad could have a new life as an Android tablet if a band of dedicated developers pull off their new project. TouchDroid is a plan to port Android to the HP TouchPad and open up the Android Market on the tablet. The team of four (Thomas Sohmers, Frankie F, John Hale and Jacob Bell) has already got a website up touting for donations to the cause and has outlined how they plan to turn the webOS device into a member of the Android army.

To start with, the TouchDroid project is aiming to get Android Gingerbread up and running on the HP TouchPad but has its sights set on jumping to Android Honeycomb soon and even getting Android Ice Cream Sandwich onboard once the combined tablet/smartphone OS emerges. Is the iPad 2 the perfect webOS tablet?Early today when HP announced it was closing shop on webOS hardware we began to speculate over possible hardware partners for the waning OS. Apparently HP engineers had begun experimenting with possibilities long before the announcement. The Next Web is reporting that a source “close to the subject” has first hand knowledge of webOS running on Apple hardware. Even more shocking? The HP TouchPad has just had a price cut in the US and looks like it’s struggling but the company is forging ahead with its next webOS tablet. The HP TouchPad Go, a 7in model, has popped up in documents from the Federal Communications Commission. We first heard about a 7in webOS tablet in January this year when it was referenced in HP documents with the codename Opal.

While HP hasn’t officially announced the HP TouchPad Go yet, the FCC filing reveals that it’s currently rocking a dual-core 1.5Ghz processor and 3G. Those specs could obviously change before it makes it to the shelves but it’s rumoured to be set for release later this month. Are you tempted by a more pocket-friendly HP TouchPad or have previous 7in models like the BlackBerry PlayBook put you off? Click the headline and hop into the comments to tell us.

HTC is on a spending spree. After snapping up cloud company Dashwire last week, it has announced that it has acquired a majority stake in Beats Electronics, the creators of the Beats By Dre headphones line. The $300m deal will see HTC putting Beats audio technology into future devices.

HTC CEO Peter Chou says: “We obsess over every detail of a consumer’s mobile experience and audio is a critical part of that.” The first HTC product with Beats tech is due for release later this year but HTC hasn’t revealed any other details yet.

Beats Electronics current deal with HP, which puts Beats audio into PCs and the HP TouchPad, will continue but HTC will have exclusive use of the technology for phones.
