Bluetooth headsets aren’t usually built for toughness, but the Bluetrek X3 is an exception: here is a headset for the extreme sportsperson who like to chat while ascending a sheer rock face in a sandstorm, or whilst barrelling solo down a series of white water rapids. It’s weatherproof, basically, so it’s able to shrug off water, snow and dirt plus stay in working fashion after being dropped. Not really essential if you’re using it in the car or whilst strolling down Brick Lane, perhaps, but if you’re in the market for a harder headset keep an eye out for it this summer.

The gaming world is going a bit nuts over the upcoming PS3 title Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and the latest piece of MGS-branded kit to appear on the radar is a Bluetooth headset. Suitably futuristic and Metal Gear-looking, the headset is primarily designed for use with the PS3, but would also work with a mobile phone if required. Whether you’d want to actually walk (sneak?) around wearing one is another matter entirely…

Yep, researcher Johnny Lee has used the cheap white plastic stick to create a cut-price interactive whiteboard (usually costs a few grand, here about £25) and a motion-tracking headset that could well open up a whole new world of gaming and interactive software.
Serial Bluetooth-botherers Plantronics have just ripped the covers off the Discovery 925, a wireless earpiece that looks a step up from the average plasticky jabber-tool. The V-shaped frame curves round to follow the contours of the wearer’s face and there’s also noise reduction gubbins going on, which is nice, but really the main reason to shell out the quids on this thing is its stylishness – if you could call any Bluetooth headset stylish. It comes in black, gold or pink enamel finishes and offers five hours of talk time, plus an additional five hours charge courtesy of the portable charging case.
